Taxtech Startup Tax Star Raises $1.75M Seed Round Ahead of UAE E-Invoicing Mandate

UAE-based taxtech startup Tax Star secured $1.75 million in Seed funding from a group of angel investors to expand its compliance software and go-to-market operations across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

Founded in 2023 by Rayhan Aleem and Haris Tasawar, the company builds automated corporate tax software. Tax Star recently secured status as a pre-approved Accredited Service Provider (ASP) for the UAE’s incoming electronic invoicing framework, positioning the startup to capture market share ahead of upcoming regulatory deadlines.

The UAE E-Invoicing Mandate

The latest funding aligns with strict compliance timelines set by UAE tax authorities. The government requires businesses generating AED 50 million or more in annual revenue to appoint an ASP by October 30, 2026. The initial mandatory implementation phase begins in January 2027.

Tax Star acts as a technical intermediary, helping businesses connect their accounting records to the government's electronic invoicing infrastructure to fulfill these reporting requirements.

Built for Accounting Workflows

Aleem, who operates an accounting firm, launched Tax Star after observing that existing software tools lacked practical utility, often forcing professionals to revert to manual spreadsheets. He notes that developers frequently design accounting software without understanding the daily technical realities of the profession.

At Tax Star, we are accountants building for accountants. This funding lets us do what matters most right now: help accountants be more productive using our tech, expand our go-to-market efforts, and ease the compliance burden for businesses across the GCC.

To reduce manual data entry, Tax Star integrates directly with existing financial systems. The platform currently supports native integrations with several major providers:

  • Xero
  • QuickBooks
  • Zoho
  • Odoo
  • Naqood

According to the founders, Tax Star is currently the only pre-approved ASP listed directly on the Xero and QuickBooks application stores.

GCC and Global Expansion Plans

The startup will allocate the $1.75 million to fund product development and scale its commercial operations. While the founders focus immediately on the UAE and the broader GCC market, they plan to expand internationally as global tax compliance standards shift. An estimated 90 countries plan to introduce mandatory e-invoicing frameworks over the next five years.

Tax Star previously participated in the Microsoft for Startups Program, Plug and Play, and Dubai Founders HQ. The company now seeks inclusion in the Dubai D33 economic initiative as it targets its next growth phase.
