Taskin Hits 15,000 Users as Founder Dheema Fakir Builds Commission-Free Work Platform for the Maldives

In January 2026, former human resources professional Dheema Fakir launched Taskin, a digital work platform designed specifically for the geographically dispersed workforce of the Maldives. Since its debut, the platform has registered more than 15,000 users. Operating with a remote team of five, Taskin distinguishes itself from global competitors by eliminating transaction fees entirely, allowing independent workers to keep 100 percent of their earnings.

From Startup Closure to New Platform

Fakir developed the concept during a period of intense personal and professional upheaval. In 2023, her first venture—an application called Fakir—shut down after its initial funding depleted. Simultaneously, she navigated pregnancy, a residential move, and sudden unemployment. Lacking a traditional family support network, she realized the conventional job market offered little flexibility for caregivers.

What if no one else had to face these struggles alone?

That question prompted her to design a platform rooted in community support rather than pure transactional volume. She built the tool she needed to hire trusted household help, which quickly expanded into a nationwide utility for connecting skilled labor with local demand.

Adapting Technology to Island Demographics

Standard global freelancing platforms rely on established infrastructure and metropolitan density. The Maldives requires a different approach due to its island geography and tight-knit communities. Taskin addresses this by integrating features tailored to local realities.

  • Assisted Profiles: Younger relatives can manage accounts for elderly tradespeople, bringing offline craftsmen into the digital economy without requiring them to master new software.
  • Transparent Bidding: A built-in negotiation tool allows clients and service providers to counter-offer, ensuring fair pricing that reflects local budgets.
  • Island Ambassadors: Rather than relying solely on digital advertisements, the company recruits local representatives across the archipelago to onboard users and build trust face-to-face.

Faith-Driven Operations and Workforce Training

Fakir anchors Taskin’s operating structure in Islamic principles of ethical trade, fairness, and barakah (blessings). This philosophy drives the company’s decision to maintain a commission-free model. By declining to take a cut of user transactions, Taskin prioritizes user retention and community trust over immediate revenue extraction.

Beyond matching workers with clients, the company launched Taskin Grow to sponsor training and professional development. Fakir drew on her background in human resources to design a program that helps workers acquire new skills and navigate career transitions, aiming to build long-term independence for its user base.

National Partnerships and Archipelagic Expansion

To scale its impact, Taskin aligns its operations with state and industry initiatives. The company currently partners with the Maldives National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) to improve vocational training and workforce visibility. In the commercial sector, Taskin targets the hospitality industry, planning integrations that will connect tourists with verified local talent.

While the company currently focuses exclusively on the Maldives, Fakir plans to export the platform's model to other island nations facing similar geographic and economic hurdles. Over the next five years, the product roadmap includes integrating digital wallets, deepening government identity verification, and consolidating growth tools into a single interface for independent workers.
