DilKiBaat: Building an AI-First Behavioral-Health System for Pakistan
Karachi, Pakistan - Pakistan has roughly 0.19 psychiatrists for every 100,000 people and an estimated 24 million people who need mental-health support. Care is fragmented. People do not know where to start, cannot reach a provider quickly, and often drop off between sessions. DilKiBaat, a National Incubation Center Karachi venture, is being built to close that gap.
DilKiBaat is not a single chatbot. It is one care system with two layers.
The first is a care access layer: finding a therapist, booking, and having the session, with real, licensed clinicians.
The second is an AI agent layer, where the company's AI agent, Aiza, operates. On the patient side, Aiza handles early support, triage, navigation, matching, and follow-up between sessions. On the clinician side, AI handles intake summaries, note-taking, and the administrative load that drives therapist burnout.
The thesis behind the system: the future of mental health is not AI alone, and not human care alone. It is AI-assisted human care. Patients enter through AI. Care continues through clinicians.
“Patients enter through AI, and care continues through clinicians,” said Taj Magsi, Co founder of DilKiBaat. “AI built for a place like Pakistan has to be built for Pakistan, not translated from
somewhere else, and it has to make the clinician's life easier, not just the patient's.”
The venture pairs technical and clinical leadership by design. Magsi leads the technology and AI. Co-founder Dr. Farooq Naeem, a senior psychiatrist and expert in culturally-adapted cognitive behavioral therapy, keeps the system clinically grounded.
“Mental-health care does not transfer cleanly from one culture to another. DilKiBaat is being built around how people in Pakistan actually seek help and talk about distress, with AI handling access and follow-up and clinicians holding the care. That combination is what makes it safe and what makes it work.”
